Zamorano University welcomed representatives from Beneficio de Café Montecristo S.A. (BECAMO) for a visit aimed at strengthening collaborative ties and exploring joint opportunities related to sustainability, agricultural development, and innovation.
Founded in 1983 and part of Neumann Kaffee Gruppe since 1989, BECAMO has established itself as one of Honduras’ leading coffee exporters, distinguished by its commitment to innovation and technological modernization.
The delegation included Ramón Emilio Medina, Co-CEO of BECAMO; Milton Ramos Rubí, Technical Assistance Officer; and Eliu Hernández, Technical Assistance Coordinator for the Central and Eastern Regions.
Ramón Emilio Medina brings extensive experience in international trade, business strategy, and executive leadership within the global coffee industry. He currently serves as Co-CEO of BECAMO, leading growth, innovation, and regional expansion strategies.
The visit began with an executive meeting with Zamorano University authorities and representatives, including Rector Jeff Cohen; Alejandro Osorio, Director of Institutional Development; and María José Baires, Fundraising Manager for Honduras. During the meeting, participants exchanged perspectives on collaboration opportunities and shared initiatives related to sustainability, agricultural production, innovation, and organizational development. Faculty members from the Environment and Development and Agroindustry departments also participated in the discussions, contributing their expertise in strategic areas for future joint initiatives.
As part of the agenda, the delegation toured several academic and productive units across campus, including the fruit and vegetable processing plant, the cocoa and coffee laboratories, the soil laboratory, and various areas of the central campus. The visit provided an opportunity to experience firsthand the Learning by Doing educational model that defines Zamorano University.
Through initiatives like this, Zamorano University continues to strengthen strategic partnerships with key stakeholders in the agrifood sector, promoting efforts that contribute to sustainable development, innovation, and the preparation of future leaders for Latin America.
