Innovation and sustainability: Heifer International visits Zamorano University

Zamorano University welcomed Mr. Marco Machado, Senior Country Director of Heifer International Honduras, who visited alongside his team with the purpose of identifying collaboration opportunities and strengthening ties between both institutions.


Mr. Marco Machado brings more than three decades of experience in sustainable rural development, agroecological production, and the management of social impact programs. He currently leads Heifer International’s operations in Honduras, an international nonprofit organization focused on ending hunger and poverty through the empowerment of smallholder farmers, food security initiatives, and the sustainable development of rural communities.


The visit began with a welcome reception at the Zemurray Cultural Center, followed by an executive meeting with university authorities, including President Jeff Cohen; Vice President and Academic Dean, Dr. Ana Maier; and Director of the Department of Agricultural Sciences and Production, Celia Trejo. During the meeting, both institutions engaged in discussions aimed at exploring strategic areas of cooperation related to sustainable rural development, agricultural innovation, and the strengthening of productive value chains.

As part of the visit, an executive lunch was also held at Casa Popenoe, where conversations continued around the exchange of ideas and potential joint initiatives between Heifer International and Zamorano University.

The visit took place as a follow-up to the invitation previously extended by the Rector of Zamorano University to Heifer International authorities, reaffirming the mutual interest in building partnerships that contribute to sustainable development and the strengthening of the agrifood sector across the region.

Zamorano University Welcomes FONAGRO Delegation to Strengthen Scholarship Program Partnership

As part of its commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships that expand access to higher education, Zamorano University welcomed a delegation from Guatemala's National Fund for the Reactivation and Modernization of Agricultural Activities (FONAGRO). The purpose of the visit was to follow up on the scholarship program jointly promoted by both institutions to benefit Guatemalan students.

SEDESOL and Zamorano University Strengthen Access to Higher Education Through the Scholarship Program

Zamorano Unisversity hosted the signing of scholarship agreements under the Scholarship Program implemented in partnership with the Secretariat of Social Development (SEDESOL), an initiative that continues to expand access to quality higher education for young Hondurans. Today, this partnership benefits more than 180 Honduran students across different academic years and degree programs at Zamorano University, representing an investment of more than L 60 million in scholarships.

Zamorano University and Fundación PROSPERA Explore Collaboration Opportunities to Advance Education and Innovation

Zamorano University welcomed a delegation from Fundación PROSPERA to strengthen institutional relationships and explore opportunities for collaboration in areas of shared interest, particularly education, professional development, internships, and agrifood innovation. The visit provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives and discuss potential joint initiatives aimed at developing talent and fostering innovation with a positive impact in Honduras and the region.
