Zamorano University welcomed FAO senior official to strengthen institutional cooperation

Zamorano University welcomed Mr. René Orellana Hakyer, Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in a visit aimed at strengthening collaboration between both institutions and showcasing the impact of the university’s educational model.

Mr. Orellana Hakyer brings extensive international experience in sustainable development, climate change, and environmental management. In his role at FAO, he leads initiatives focused on advancing food security and rural development across the region.

The visit aimed to present Zamorano University’s work in agricultural education, innovation, and sustainability, while also consolidating a strategic partnership through the signing of a cooperation agreement.

During his visit, Mr. Orellana experienced firsthand several academic and production units that reflect Zamorano’s Learning-by-Doing approach. Activities included visits to the Soils module, the Regional Innovation Center for Fruits and Vegetables, and the postharvest plant, as well as a student dialogue on the challenges of agriculture and food security in Latin America and the Caribbean.

As a key milestone of the visit, a cooperation agreement between FAO and Zamorano University was signed, opening new opportunities for collaboration in critical areas such as food security, sustainable development, and climate resilience.

The visit was joined by Dr. Ana Maier, Vice President and Academic Dean, along with academic authorities, faculty, and students, who contributed to this space for dialogue and knowledge exchange.

With this visit, Zamorano University reaffirms its commitment to building strategic partnerships that contribute to the development of the agrifood sector and the well-being of communities across the region.

Zamorano University Welcomes FONAGRO Delegation to Strengthen Scholarship Program Partnership

As part of its commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships that expand access to higher education, Zamorano University welcomed a delegation from Guatemala's National Fund for the Reactivation and Modernization of Agricultural Activities (FONAGRO). The purpose of the visit was to follow up on the scholarship program jointly promoted by both institutions to benefit Guatemalan students.

SEDESOL and Zamorano University Strengthen Access to Higher Education Through the Scholarship Program

Zamorano Unisversity hosted the signing of scholarship agreements under the Scholarship Program implemented in partnership with the Secretariat of Social Development (SEDESOL), an initiative that continues to expand access to quality higher education for young Hondurans. Today, this partnership benefits more than 180 Honduran students across different academic years and degree programs at Zamorano University, representing an investment of more than L 60 million in scholarships.

Zamorano University welcomed a delegation from Fundación PROSPERA to strengthen institutional relationships and explore opportunities for collaboration in areas of shared interest, particularly education, professional development, internships, and agrifood innovation. The visit provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives and discuss potential joint initiatives aimed at developing talent and fostering innovation with a positive impact in Honduras and the region.
