Zamorano University held two field days in Olanchito, Yoro, and Bonito Oriental, Colón, bringing practical knowledge and tools directly to livestock producers while creating opportunities to exchange experiences and strengthen decision-making on their farms.
The activities were conducted as part of the Pilot Project for Intensive Technical Assistance to Increase Livestock and Agricultural Productivity, implemented by Zamorano University through its Department of Agricultural Sciences and Production (CPA) and funded by the Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG). In Olanchito, the field day also brought together efforts from the MAF Ganadería Honduras initiative, expanding the technical expertise and resources available to producers in the region.
Through hands-on technical stations, participants explored three key areas of livestock management: forage conservation; herd records and structure; and the identification, prevention, and control of internal and external parasites.
Practical exercises, demonstrations, and peer-to-peer exchanges introduced producers to tools and practices designed to improve herd management, make more efficient use of available farm resources, and generate reliable information to support timely decisions about their production systems.
These field days help bridge the gap between technical knowledge and the everyday realities and challenges producers face. By taking learning directly to the farm, the approach helps turn technical concepts into practical solutions that producers can apply within their own operations.
In Bonito Oriental, the field day was held at the facilities of the Bonito Oriental Livestock Producers Association (AGABO), whose support helped create a collaborative learning environment for producers from the surrounding area.
In Olanchito, collaboration between the Pilot Project and MAF Ganadería Honduras brought together technical expertise and resources, maximizing the impact of the assistance Zamorano University provides to farming communities across the country.
Through these efforts, Zamorano University continues to strengthen its engagement with Honduras’ agricultural sector, bringing knowledge, hands-on learning, and technical expertise directly to the field to help advance a more productive, efficient, and sustainable livestock sector.
