Zamorano University Welcomes FONAGRO Delegation to Strengthen Scholarship Program Partnership

As part of its commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships that expand access to higher education, Zamorano University welcomed a delegation from Guatemala's National Fund for the Reactivation and Modernization of Agricultural Activities (FONAGRO). The purpose of the visit was to follow up on the scholarship program jointly promoted by both institutions to benefit Guatemalan students.

FONAGRO is a trust fund and the technical and financial arm of Guatemala's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food (MAGA). Its mission is to improve the quality of life of rural families by providing access to financial and technical resources that support the reactivation and modernization of the country's agricultural sector.

The FONAGRO delegation included Mario Riveiro, General Manager; Edgar Borrayo, Legal Advisor; José Salinas, Internal Auditor; and Danilo Morales, member of the Technical Monitoring and Evaluation Unit. Throughout the visit, the delegation was accompanied by Nicole Vayssier, Zamorano University's representative in Guatemala.

During their time on campus, the delegation gained firsthand insight into Zamorano University's Learning by Doing educational model and met with university leaders and academic teams to learn more about student development, the admissions process, internship opportunities, graduation projects, and the university's academic and psychoeducational support services. They also met with scholarship recipients to hear directly about their experiences and the impact the program has had on their academic and professional development.

The agenda also included visits to several academic and production facilities across campus, including the Fruit and Vegetable Processing Plant, the Biological Control Laboratory, agricultural production modules, and Zamorano Market. These visits allowed the delegation to experience how the university integrates academic learning with hands-on practice, research, and innovation.

This visit reaffirmed the strong partnership between FONAGRO and Zamorano University, an alliance that continues to create opportunities for Guatemalan students to access a world-class education while preparing them to contribute to the sustainable development of the agricultural sector across the region.
