Zamorano University welcomed Alessandro Francasetti, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Honduras, as part of an institutional visit aimed at strengthening cooperation and exploring opportunities for collaboration in areas related to sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and the education of future leaders for the region.
During his visit to campus, Francasetti held an executive meeting with Jeff Cohen, President of Zamorano University, and toured the Department of Environmental Sciences and Development as well as the Forestry Unit, where he learned about several of the university’s academic, applied research, and outreach initiatives focused on sustainability and natural resource management.
Alessandro Francasetti has more than 30 years of experience in international organizations, including over two decades within the United Nations system. Throughout his career, he has led initiatives related to democratic governance, institutional strengthening, resilience, energy transition, climate diplomacy, and sustainable development across Europe, the Middle East, the Caucasus, and Latin America.
The UNDP delegation also included Astrid Mejía, Environment Unit Coordinator; Cinthya Barahona, Youth Focal Point; Mardo Matuta, Technical Support Specialist for the Environment Unit; and Aníbal Barahona, Communications Officer.
The visit provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and gain deeper insight into Zamorano University’s contributions to sustainable development through education, research, and innovation. It also served as a platform to identify potential areas of collaboration that can generate positive impact for Honduras and the broader region.
