Strengthening Our Commitment to Innovation and Intellectual Property Management

Zamorano University actively participated in the Workshop on Implementing the WIPO Model Policy on Institutional Intellectual Property Management, held on Thursday, September 11, and aimed at universities from Central America and the Dominican Republic.

The event was organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Honduran Institute of Property (IP), through its General Directorate of Intellectual Property, with the goal of strengthening institutional capacities in intellectual property management and technology transfer.

The workshop was led by Juan Carlos Suárez, an expert in intellectual property management and technology transfer, who shared valuable insights on:

· Implementing the WIPO model and its institutional applications

· Common challenges in managing intellectual property

· Key strategies to strengthen technology transfer offices

During the session, Jacob Velásquez presented Zamorano’s innovation experience, highlighting the AgroHub project on food innovation and entrepreneurship, developed in collaboration with BID Lab. Also participating were Luis Contreras from AgroHub, Dennis Turcios from the Technology and Innovation Support Center (CATI), and Emily Moradel and José Oscar Murillo from Zamorano.

As part of this joint effort, on Friday, September 12, Mr. Suárez visited the Zamorano campus, where he delivered the lecture: “How to Generate University Intellectual Property That Is Patentable and Market-Transferable”

It was an enriching session in which faculty shared their projects and received guidance on how to turn their ideas into protective and market-ready assets.
