As part of the educational partnership between the Government of El Salvador, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Zamorano University, a strategic visit was carried out to advance the AGROBECAS program. The visit focused on reviewing the progress of the initiative—currently in its second active cohort of scholarships for Salvadoran students—as well as on opening a new call for applications and strengthening Zamorano University’s role as a leading agricultural reference institution for El Salvador.
During the visit, the Salvadoran delegation held executive meetings with academic and administrative leadership at Zamorano University to assess the program’s academic, financial, and operational implementation, establish guidelines for the upcoming AGROBECAS call, and review its outcomes and long-term outlook. These discussions reinforced coordination mechanisms and helped ensure the program’s sustainability in the medium and long term.
The agenda also included meetings with Salvadoran AGROBECAS recipients currently enrolled at Zamorano University, reaffirming the Government of El Salvador’s commitment to developing highly skilled human capital with a strong vision for national development. In this context, special recognition was given to Israel Isaac Fuentes Chicas, an AGROBECAS scholar who ranks first among program beneficiaries, with an overall GPA of 88.91, placing 46th out of 307 students, and earning a “Very Good” disciplinary standing—a clear reflection of the program’s positive impact on student performance.
The delegation was led by Mr. Oscar Mauricio Figueroa Torres, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Acting Executive Director, together with Ms. Karla Majano de Palma, Director General of the El Salvador Agency for International Cooperation, accompanied by their executive and technical team.
Zamorano University acknowledged the Government of El Salvador’s strong commitment to high-quality higher education and to expanding opportunities for young people, further consolidating a strategic partnership that promotes professional training, sustainable development, and the strengthening of human and productive capital across the region.
