Zamorano University and SEDESOL Sign Scholarship Agreement to Expand Educational Opportunities for Honduran Youth

Zamorano University and the Secretariat of Social Development (SEDESOL) signed an educational cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening access to higher education for Honduran students with an interest in agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, rural development, and related fields.

The agreement was signed by Jeff Cohen, President of Zamorano University, and Fátima Juárez, Minister of the Secretariat of Social Development (SEDESOL), reaffirming both institutions’ commitment to preparing professionals who will contribute to the sustainable development of Honduras.

The agreement establishes a collaborative framework for awarding full and partial scholarships to Honduran students selected to pursue their studies at Zamorano University, expanding access to a high-quality higher education for talented young people from across the country. Through this initiative, 177 students will benefit from the program, including 32 recipients of full scholarships and 145 recipients of partial scholarships. The agreement also represents an investment of more than L60.4 million to support students from the Classes of 2026, 2027, 2028, and 2029.

During the signing ceremony, Jeff Cohen highlighted the importance of strengthening strategic partnerships that promote education as a driver of social transformation and national development. Representatives of SEDESOL also emphasized the significant impact this initiative will have in expanding educational opportunities for high-potential students throughout Honduras.

Representing Zamorano University at the event were Dr. Ana Maier, Vice President and Academic Dean; Eng. Ivanna Vejarano, Admissions Manager; Thania Pérez, Head of Government Relations; and three scholarship recipients, whose presence reflected the transformative impact that educational opportunities can have on the lives of students and their communities.

The SEDESOL delegation also included Eva López, Deputy Minister for Regulation for Development and Social Protection; Fanny Mejía, Deputy Minister for the Leadership of Development and Social Protection Policies; and Ivelis Ayala, Director of the Scholarship Program.

Through this partnership, Zamorano University and SEDESOL reaffirm their shared commitment to education, equal opportunity, and human capital development, contributing to the preparation of professionals capable of generating innovative solutions to the challenges facing Honduras’ agrifood, environmental, and rural sectors.

Zamorano Unisversity hosted the signing of scholarship agreements under the Scholarship Program implemented in partnership with the Secretariat of Social Development (SEDESOL), an initiative that continues to expand access to quality higher education for young Hondurans. Today, this partnership benefits more than 180 Honduran students across different academic years and degree programs at Zamorano University, representing an investment of more than L 60 million in scholarships.

Zamorano University welcomed a delegation from Fundación PROSPERA to strengthen institutional relationships and explore opportunities for collaboration in areas of shared interest, particularly education, professional development, internships, and agrifood innovation. The visit provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives and discuss potential joint initiatives aimed at developing talent and fostering innovation with a positive impact in Honduras and the region.
