Zamorano University strengthens strategic partnerships in El Salvador and Guatemala with a regional vision

Tegucigalpa, Honduras – May 21, 2025

Zamorano University recently completed its Institutional Roadshow in El Salvador and Guatemala, a dynamic series of high-level meetings led by Rector Sergio Rodríguez Royo and Director of Institutional Development Alejandro José Osorio Mejía, accompanied by country representatives Johana Oporta (El Salvador) and Nicole Vayssier (Guatemala). This regional tour reinforced Zamorano’s commitment to sustainable development, academic excellence, and empowering young talent across Central America.

In San Salvador, Zamorano visited Banco Agrícola, a leading financial institution recognized by Fintech Américas and Euromoney for its innovation and sustainable impact. During the meeting with Carmen María Contreras, Director of Marketing, Reputation, and Sustainability, the discussion centered around strategic topics including agro-industrial development, clean energy, gender equity, and the potential renewal of a scholarship agreement that supported Salvadoran students between 2004 and 2008.

Meetings were also held with El Salvador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Casa Presidencial, where leaders discussed plans to open a regional Zamorano office and reviewed the progress of the International Mission initiative.

The Roadshow featured a special dinner with distinguished Zamorano alumni and members of AGEAP El Salvador, including Daniel Murcia, the chapter’s new president. A heartfelt tribute was presented to Ricardo Montenegro, a long-time supporter of Zamorano and a driving force behind the Insaforp scholarship program, which has benefited over 480 Salvadoran students since 1998.

Further private-sector meetings included conversations with Carlos Calleja, President of Grupo Calleja; executives from the dairy industry such as Lactolac and Asileche; and Mirna de Macay, founder of Los Quesos de Oriente. These discussions opened the door to new collaborative opportunities, including product development, value chain integration, and expanding Zamorano-branded goods.

The Roadshow continued in Guatemala, where Zamorano met with leaders from Fundación Carlos F. Novella and Progreso, Grupo Mariposa, Corporación Multi Inversiones (CMI), and Fundación Juan Bautista Gutiérrez. Topics included reforestation, scholarships, internship programs, and community development, all aligned with a shared vision for impact and sustainability.

A key meeting with Guatemala’s Minister of Agriculture, María Fernanda Rivera, focused on joint initiatives to strengthen the country’s agro-industrial sector and train a new generation of technical leaders.

The visit concluded with a strategic dialogue with the Fundación Castillo Córdova, focused on education, vulnerable communities, and high-impact social programs.

Zamorano’s Roadshow reflects the university’s unwavering mission to drive educational transformation, promote innovation in agro-food systems, and build strategic partnerships that foster inclusive and sustainable development across Latin America.
