Zamorano University Explores Partnership with the Korea Program on International Agriculture (KOPIA)

Zamorano University welcomed a delegation from the Rural Development Administration of Korea to its campus as part of an exploratory visit aimed at learning about Zamorano’s institutional capacities and its potential to become part of the international network of KOPIA Centers (Korea Program on International Agriculture).

The visit sought to assess the feasibility of establishing a KOPIA Center in Honduras, based at Zamorano, by 2027 as part of broader international cooperation efforts to drive agricultural innovation and development in the country and across the region.

Representatives from the Honduran Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG) joined the Korean delegation during the visit, expressing their support for the initiative, which would be led by SAG at the intergovernmental level.

The meeting provided an opportunity to showcase Zamorano’s technical, academic, and infrastructure capabilities, reinforcing its position as a strong candidate to host this cooperation center—especially considering that the Government of Korea already operates a KOPIA Center in Comayagua, making this a strategic opportunity to expand the network within Honduras.

This visit represents an important step toward strengthening international partnerships that promote agricultural innovation, technology transfer, and human capital development for the benefit of Honduras and the wider region.
