Zamorano University strengthened its ties with Bolsa Agropecuaria de Servicios, S.A. (BAGSA) and Agropecuaria LAFISE through the signing of two separate cooperation agreements aimed at creating new opportunities in education and training, innovation, research, knowledge transfer, business development, and support for the agricultural sector.
BAGSA and Agropecuaria LAFISE are independent entities with strong ties to the agricultural and business sectors. Both organizations are led by Enrique Zamora Llanes, who visited the Zamorano University campus accompanied by a BAGSA delegation to learn more about the university’s academic, technical, production, and research capabilities and identify opportunities for collaboration.
The two cooperation agreements were signed during the visit. Representing Zamorano University were President Jeff Cohen; Vice President and Academic Dean Ana Maier; Vice President of Production Units David Moreira; Director of Institutional Development Alejandro Osorio; Office of the President Project Manager Isaac Ferrera; Associate Professor in the Department of Agroindustry Edward Moncada; as well as representatives from academic departments and other university units.
The BAGSA delegation also included Silgian Cerda Juárez, Food Laboratory Analyst; Guadalupe Rodríguez Escalante, Coffee Laboratory Analyst; Alexandrea Rodríguez Guzmán, Head of Rice Trading Posts; Kellin Gutiérrez Guerra, Laboratory Technical Reception; and Ricardo Silva Beltrand, Market Analyst.
The agreements establish a framework for cooperation across five strategic areas: knowledge development, executive education, and technology transfer; innovation, productive development, and sustainability; financial integration, business development, and value ecosystems; scholarships and opportunities for students; and laboratory services, quality assurance, and technical cooperation.
Potential areas of collaboration include specialized education and training programs in regenerative agriculture, digital technologies for agriculture, climate risk management, sustainable finance, precision agriculture, sustainable livestock production, the bioeconomy, the circular economy, efficient water management, renewable energy, and the digital transformation of the agricultural sector.
The agreements also create opportunities to promote scholarships, internships, professional experiences, and mentorships for Zamorano students, including opportunities in food laboratories and areas related to agricultural lending. They also seek to connect graduates with employment opportunities related to the participating organizations and their respective areas of activity.
As part of the agenda, the BAGSA delegation toured several facilities across campus, including the Food Analysis, Food Microbiology, Grains and Seeds, and Coffee and Cacao laboratories, as well as the Dairy Processing Plant and Meat Processing Plant. During the tour, delegation members learned about Zamorano University’s capabilities in research, analysis, quality assurance, and knowledge transfer to the productive sector.
In this area, the cooperation also seeks to strengthen collaboration between the institutions’ laboratories through the exchange of technical expertise and methodologies, internship opportunities, and other initiatives focused on quality assurance and strengthening specialized services.
Through these agreements, Zamorano University strengthens its engagement with organizations connected to the agricultural, financial, and business sectors, advancing initiatives that connect education, research, and innovation with new opportunities for students, graduates, producers, and companies across the agrifood sector.
