Zamorano University celebrated a new edition of its Academic Honors and Disciplinary Excellence Dinner, an annual event that recognizes students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, dedication, perseverance, and exemplary conduct throughout their university experience.
Each year, the ceremony honors students who achieve a grade point average between 89.5 and 100, based on their cumulative academic performance through the final academic term of the previous year. For the 2026 ceremony, recognition was based on academic records through the third term of 2025.
The event was led by Zamorano University President Jeff Cohen, who congratulated the honorees and emphasized that academic excellence is the result of consistent effort, discipline, and a commitment to lifelong learning. The ceremony was also attended by Dr. Ana Maier, Vice President and Academic Dean, the four program directors, the director of the General Education Department, the Associate Dean of Students, the Associate Dean for Academic Management and Quality, and members of the Associate Dean of Students (DAE) team.
During the ceremony, diplomas were presented by the program directors and the director of the General Education Department. Students were recognized according to their academic standing, beginning with those earning a GPA of 89.5 and culminating with the student who achieved the highest GPA in the university, one of the evening's most memorable moments.
A total of 140 students received recognition for academic excellence. The highest GPA of this year's class was 96.85, earned by a third-year student in the Food Science and Technology Engineering program.
The honorees reflect the diversity and talent that define Zamorano's student community.
- • 73 students are enrolled in Agronomy Engineering, followed by 35 in Food Science and Technology Engineering, 19 in Agro-environmental Engineering, and 13 in Agribusiness Engineering.
- • The ceremony recognized 140 students—87 men and 53 women—representing 15 countries across the Americas.
- • Honduras had the largest representation with 56 students, followed by Guatemala (27), Ecuador (16), El Salvador (14), and Nicaragua (4). Honorees also represented Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Haiti, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and the United States.
The university also recognized eight students with the Disciplinary Excellence Award, presented to those who have maintained a perfect disciplinary record throughout their time at Zamorano University. These awards were presented by the Associate Dean of Students and members of her team. In this category, three students from Food Science and Technology Engineering, two from Agro-environmental Engineering, and three from Agronomy Engineering were honored.
Beyond recognizing outstanding academic achievement, the Academic Honors and Disciplinary Excellence Dinner reaffirms Zamorano University's commitment to educating professionals who combine academic excellence, leadership, discipline, and strong values to create a lasting positive impact on their communities and on agri-food systems throughout the region.
