Escuela Agrícola Panamericana (EAP) Zamorano, organizes the first edition of the President's Lecture, a series of conferences designed to promote the intersection between academia and leaders in the agri-food sector. This event aims to promote innovation, education and transformation in the agri-food sector, positioning Zamorano as a benchmark in the development of local, regional and global solutions.
The inaugural theme of this series is “Challenges and Opportunities in the Governance of Water Resources for Productive Purposes”. The conference was attended by leading experts in water management and water governance.
M.Sc. Erika Tenorio, Associate Professor in Water Resources of the Environment and Development Department at Zamorano, presented “Zamorano: Contribution to Strengthening Water Governance in Honduras”. Her speech addressed Zamorano's contributions to water management and presented a timeline of the institution's contributions at the national and regional levels.
The second presentation was given by Dr. Guillermo Donoso, Director of the Department of Agricultural Economics and the Center for Water Law and Management of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, on “Challenges and opportunities in water resource governance”. Mr. Donoso shared perspectives on water governance and its impact on
productive processes.
The event concluded with a panel discussion, moderated by Sergio Rodríguez Royo, Zamorano President, and with the participation of Dr. Guillermo Donoso, Mtr. Josué León, Professor of Watershed Management and Coordinator of the Forestry Unit, Environment and Development Department, Zamorano, M. Sc. Sc. Isaac Ferrera, Environmental Program Specialist, USAID, Mtr. Fabiola Tabora, Executive Secretary, Global Water Partnership Central America and Eng. Elías Nazar, General Director of the National Irrigation Program (PRONAGRI), Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock of Honduras (SAG).
During the event, an important agreement between Zamorano and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile was also announced. This agreement includes:
- Exchange of information and materials of mutual interest.
- Promotion of the exchange of academic, administrative and research personnel, visiting specialists and students.
- Strengthening of the teaching role through training, coaching and innovation.
- Collaboration in postgraduate programs and development of public policies in the agri-food sector.
- Carrying out joint research projects.
- Other forms of cooperation that the institutions may jointly organize.
