President travels to Washington, D.C. to (re)connect Zamorano with key partners in the U.S.

Sergio Rodríguez Royo, President of the Escuela Agrícola Panamericana, and Horacio Rodríguez Vázquez, Director of Institutional Development, held high-level meetings with representatives of government, international organizations and civil society organizations.

From June 3 to 5, Sergio Rodríguez Royo, Rector of the Escuela Agrícola Panamericana, and Horacio Rodríguez Vázquez, Director of Institutional Development, conducted the third international tour of the year 2024, this time in the capital of the United States of America.

This activity is part of Zamorano's global positioning strategy, through the generation of new alliances and the strengthening of existing collaborations with key partners in the North American nation that support the implementation of the 2030 Strategic Plan.

During their official trip to Washington, D.C., Sergio Rodríguez Royo and Horacio Rodríguez Vázquez held high-level meetings with authorities from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), The Nature Conservancy (TNC), the CGIAR International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).

Zamorano's President and Director of Institutional Development also participated in the dialogue "A Vision for the Adapted Crops and Soils Program in Guatemala," organized by IICA and the U.S. Department of State and held at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS) on Monday, June 3. The event was also attended by Cary Fowler, Special Envoy for Global Food Security of the Government of the United States of America; Maynor Estrada, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of Guatemala; Rattan Lal, a scientist who received the World Food Prize in 2020 for his research on soils; José Fernández, Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and Environment, U.S. Department of State; Alison Taylor, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer, Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM); Margaret Zeigler, IICA Representative in the United States of America; and Manuel Otero, Director General of IICA. It is important to note that Zamorano was the only university present at this high-level event.

As part of this mission, Sergio Rodríguez Royo and Horacio Rodríguez Vázquez also met with Zamorano graduates currently working in different institutions based in Washington, D.C.: Ana Ríos (Guatemala, Class of 1998) from the IDB; José Falck-Zepeda (Honduras, Class of 1984) and Víctor Taleon (Guatemala, Class of 2005) from IFPRI; and Jorge Wong-Valle (Nicaragua, Class of 1982) from IFC.

The next international tour of Zamorano's President and Director of Institutional Development is planned to take place in Ecuador during the month of August.

The Pan-American Agricultural School Zamorano and IDB Lab, the innovation division of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), have signed a significant agreement to establish AgroHub: Innovation and Agrifood Entrepreneurship. This groundbreaking project aims to transform the agrifood ecosystem in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador, with a special focus on small-scale farmers, sustainability, and climate resilience.
