Zamorano and Netafim sign collaboration agreement to promote agricultural innovation

Mexico City, June 27, 2024


Escuela Agrícola Panamericana (EAP) Zamorano and Netafim, a world leader in drip irrigation and micro-irrigation solutions, signed a collaboration agreement today to strengthen sustainable agricultural development. This agreement highlights the commitment of both institutions to innovation and the training of future professionals in the agricultural sector.

Sergio Rodríguez Royo, Rector of the Escuela Agrícola Panamericana, and Carlos Vendrell Almir, Director for Central America and the Caribbean of Netafim, signed this framework cooperation agreement at the Orbia/Netafim headquarters in Mexico. Susana Margolin Rodríguez, Orbia/Netafim's Global Head of Social Impact, acted as witness of honor at this event.

Within the framework of this strategic alliance, Zamorano and Netafim will work jointly in the
following areas:

  1. Netafim will provide technical assistance and advanced equipment to optimize the irrigation systems at the Zamorano Coffee Center, improving efficiency and productivity.
  2. Technical support for the Zamorano Everlasting Education (ZEED) continuing education program, focusing on capacity building of producers through precision agriculture and training of Netafim/Orbia collaborators through ad hoc courses designed specifically for their needs.
  3. Netafim and Zamorano will work on projects that connect academia with industry, promoting the transfer of knowledge and innovative technologies to society.
  4. Programs and activities will be implemented to identify and develop the talent of students with an interest in sustainable agriculture and advanced irrigation technologies.
  5. Zamorano students will have the opportunity of internships and professional practices at Netafim, acquiring practical experience and applied knowledge in the field of irrigation and precision agriculture.
  6. Joint research to promote sustainable agricultural practices, focusing on water use efficiency and optimization of natural resources.

This agreement represents a significant step towards the modernization of agriculture in the region and underscores the importance of collaboration between academia and industry to address the challenges facing the agricultural sector.

Zamorano Researchers Contribute Chapter to International Handbook on Women Farmers

Zamorano University continues to contribute to global knowledge on rural development and gender equity. Two of its researchers, Francis Denisse McLean-Rodríguez and Arie Sanders, authored the chapter “Women Smallholder Farmers Growing Horticultural Crops” in the book Women and Smallholder Farming: Addressing Global Inequities in Agriculture, edited by Carolyn Sachs (Penn State University) and Paige Castellanos (Oxfam America).
