From October 20 to 23, 2026, third-year students in Zamorano University’s Agribusiness Engineering program participated in an international academic tour in El Salvador. The experience was designed to complement their professional education and strengthen the connection between classroom learning and the realities of the business sector.
During the tour, students visited companies representing different segments of El Salvador’s agro-industrial sector, giving them the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into production processes, business models, operations, and marketing strategies.
Among the organizations visited was Red Fox Las Mercedes, S.A. de C.V. (Dümmen Orange), a leading company in the hybridization, breeding, and propagation of ornamental plants. Students also learned about the operations of Alimentos MOR, a company serving the agricultural sector and supplying inputs for livestock production, with activities related to cattle, poultry, and agricultural services.
The agenda also included a visit to Ingenio La Cabaña, a company with more than 100 years of experience in the sugar industry, dedicated to sugarcane processing and the production of sugar, molasses, rum, and renewable energy.
As part of the tour, students also visited Agronegocios, a company involved in the production and commercialization of food products for pets and livestock species, including poultry and swine.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
The experience allowed future agribusiness engineers to broaden their understanding of how agro-industrial companies operate and are managed, gain insight into different production and operational processes, and analyze value chains from a comprehensive and sustainable perspective.
The visits also encouraged interaction with industry professionals, enabling students to learn more about the current challenges and opportunities facing agro-industrial companies while identifying potential opportunities for internships, professional experience, and future employment throughout the Central American region.
Through international academic experiences such as this one, Zamorano University continues to strengthen an educational model based on hands-on learning, engagement with the private sector, and exposure to diverse production environments across the region.
The tour contributed to the development of key academic and professional competencies among future agribusiness engineers, preparing them to analyze, manage, and develop solutions to the challenges of an increasingly dynamic, competitive, and regionally interconnected agri-food sector.
