It is transmitted by insects known as triatomines, commonly referred to as \u201ckissing bugs.\u201d Despite the importance of the disease, significant knowledge gaps remain regarding which species of these insects are present in each country and which areas pose the greatest risk to rural communities.<\/p><p>A team of researchers, with participation from Zamorano, worked to identify and map triatomine species found in Honduras and other countries in the region. The study, published in the journal <em>ENTOMOTROPICA<\/em>, provides updated information on the geographic distribution of these vectors, a key resource for epidemiological surveillance programs.<\/p><p>Updated distribution maps allow health authorities to prioritize intervention areas and strengthen Chagas disease control strategies in rural communities, where the risk of transmission is often higher.
