Zamorano University participated in the university presidents\u2019 panel held during the opening of the III International Conference on Science, Technology, and Innovation (CONICIETI 2026), organized by the Central American Technological University (UNITEC) in Tegucigalpa.<\/p>

The discussion, titled \u201cReimagining the University: Challenges and Opportunities for Honduras,\u201d brought together academic leaders to reflect on the future of higher education in a context shaped by technological transformation, social change, and the evolving demands of younger generations.<\/p>

The panel was moderated by Dr. Rosalpina Rodr\u00edguez, President and Rector of UNITEC, and featured the participation of Jeff Cohen, Rector of Zamorano University; Odir Fern\u00e1ndez, Rector of the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH) and President of the Higher Education Council (CES); and Julio Raudales, Rector of Jos\u00e9 Cecilio del Valle University (UJCV) and President of ANUPRIH.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

During the conversation, participants addressed key topics related to the development of higher education in Honduras, including artificial intelligence and digital transformation, academic relevance and employability, mental health and student well-being, human development and citizenship, innovation and national competitiveness, as well as the relationship between universities, industry, and society. The discussion also highlighted the importance of strengthening sustainability and interinstitutional collaboration among universities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

During his participation, Jeff Cohen emphasized the importance of promoting more applied research closely connected to the real needs of the country and the region, particularly in areas related to sustainability, food security, and technological transformation. He also highlighted the value of preparing professionals with strong human skills such as leadership, critical thinking, adaptability, and collaboration\u2014competencies that are increasingly essential in a technology-driven world.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

CONICIETI 2026 brought together academics, researchers, and specialists from Central America, Mexico, South America, and Europe in a space dedicated to the exchange of knowledge and experiences in science, technology, and innovation. The conference was held from May 12\u201314 in both in-person and virtual formats.<\/p>
